In the summer of 2003, Anita Stewart set up The World’s Longest Barbecue. Many Canadians fired up their grills to support locally produced foods. This event grew into Food Day. Canadians go to farmers markets and u-pick farms to share their love of food. Here is a recipe to serve to family and friends for Food Day 2010 on July 31.
175 ml (3/4 cup) maple syrup
50 ml (1/4 cup) Dijon mustard
30 ml (2 tbsp) finely chopped green onion
10 ml (2 tsp) seasoned salt
1 ml (1/4 tsp) freshly ground pepper
12 skinless chicken thighs
To prepare sauce, in a small bowl, combine all ingredients except chicken. Grill chicken over low heat on barbecue for 40 to 45 minutes until chicken is cooked through. Baste with sauce during the last 10 to 15 minutes of cooking. Makes 6 servings.
