new year's

The holidays are such a wonderful and exciting time of year for kids of all ages, big kids too! New Year’s is a great opportunity to host a family fun night. Here are some ideas of activities that you could do as a family:

  • New Year’s scavenger hunt – it’s easy – whoever finds the most items wins. Use fun New Year’s themed items to find like noise makers, party hats, glow sticks, a calendar, or a New Year’s balloon. Have fun!
  • Hold a family movie night – this is a perfect opportunity to go through family videos and old family photos and reminisce about good times from the last year or year’s previous. Take a break in the middle and cook a family favorite meal together.
  • Make some Water Bottle Noise Makers –
    • You will Need:
      • An empty plastic water bottle
      • Beans, coins, rice, or other items to put inside (be careful with choking hazards and young children)
      • White tissue paper
      • Scraps of tissue paper of various colours, cut into squares
      • Coloured yarn
      • White craft glue
      • Water
      • Scissors
  • How to make it:
    • Place a handful of beans, rice, or coins inside the clean, dry water bottle. Run some glue around the mouth of the bottle and replace the cap.
    • Make a mixture of ½ white craft glue and ½ water that will be enough to cover the outsides of the bottles a few times over.
    • Tear white tissue paper into large chunks.
    • Paint a small section of the outside of the water bottle with the glue mixture. Place a torn piece of white tissue paper onto the glue mixture and paint over it with the glue mixture. Repeat the process, covering the entire bottle in 2-3 coats of white.
    • Apply small colorful squares of tissue paper randomly over the white tissue paper to resemble confetti.
    • Tie colored pieces of yarn around the mouth of the bottle to resemble streamers.
    • Let dry for a couple of hours.
